Blog #7 Feminist Criticism

Feminist Criticism

I would have to agree with my group when we talked about the way women were sought to be. Women were seen to be conservative and have more class. Women in the 60's were not known to walk around in bathing suits. They were known to have "shoulders covered." The social dominance or rules was challenged by Queenie and her friend by walking in the store barely covered. The boss of the store has old fashion ideas about how women should present themselves as ladies and not as slut. Not saying they are sluts but in my opinion you dress like one, you are asking to be called a one. The girls knew they were being stared at the whole time they were in the store and they didn't care. with her arguing with Sammy and implying that there was nothing wrong with the way they were dressed just shows her try at challenging the way society is telling the girls to dress. The boss says to the girls, " This is not a beach." And tells them that he expects them to dress appropriate when they enter the store. In a way, this seems to still exist because you have to dress appropriate to get service at a store you go to.
