In this type of literature it's hard to pick out a grotesque character because grotesque means someone is characterized by foolish, unreasonable, or out of place, or inappropriate manner. The children, John Wesley and June Star, were extremely rude and the things they said to each other, even to other adults were uncalled for. But I believe that the grandmother was the most grotesque character is this piece of literature. She was very selfish and tried to always be in control of the situation. She tried to manipulate this she said so she get her way. For example, the house with the hidden panel. Just because she wanted to see the house she made up a story to get her way. The grandmother seemed like a caring nice lady before the family left for there trip but through out the story you start to learn she is a very rude and racist lady. She definitely doesn't show "Southern Hospitality." She show a very shallow, deceitful, and extremely into herself. I mean if she never took the cat like she wasn't suppose to, there would of not been an accident!!
